Reels get new advertising features
Reels are a type of content that can be posted on Facebook and Instagram. A Reel is essentially a short video, but users can also add text, music and many other features. These were created to give the properties owned by Meta similar functionality to TikTok or older social media platforms like Vine.
Advertisers can use these Reels to get their products in front of their potential audience. This makes them a very valuable tool as people continue to engage with Reels at a high level. Recently, Meta has created some new features and capabilities that are supposed to streamline the process for users and make it more likely that they will purchase items through the platform. Let’s take a look at two of these changes.
Swiping left
One change is that ads can now be created with swipe-left functionality. If someone sees a Reel advertising a product, they can simply swipe to the left and then a landing page or a product page is shown. This makes it very easy for people to quickly learn more about the things that they’re viewing. Most Reels are fairly short, perhaps just lasting for a few seconds. But users can now swipe left for this additional information, giving them time to do quick research and perhaps make a purchase. It keeps their attention for longer.
Collection ads
Another type of ad that can be used is known as a collection ad, where the main Reel is shown at the top of the screen and smaller images are shown at the bottom. There may also be a bar inviting users to “shop now.” The benefit here is that users can switch through the different images to get more information about specific products. So rather than just having one product on the page, a brand could have three or four different products that users can choose from.
Are you using Reels?
These are just two of the changes, and it is likely that more will come in the future if Reels continue to be popular. It’s very important to keep up with how the social media advertising process shifts and evolves, just as it is important to use the most modern advertising techniques available to your company.
