Yahoo Updated on iOS
After revamping their desktop search experience earlier this year, Yahoo is back with a retooled search site for iOS, just in time for the release of iOS 7 and Apple’s new smartphones, the iPhone 5C and 5S. Not surprisingly, the mobile Yahoo experience is now very similar to the experience Yahoo rolled out in early summer for desktop users.
The most outstanding feature is a new navigation bar that automatically disappears when you scroll, and reappears when you stop scrolling so you can quickly conduct a new search – and this feature is only the beginning.
Cleaner Layout, Better Image Search and More
In addition to the cleaner look afforded by the disappearing navigation bar, Yahoo redesigned the aesthetics of the mobile site itself in order to bring it up to speed with their other properties. Smartphone users with relatively small screens will appreciate the update as reading space has been expanded, and all users will benefit from the fact that links are now easier to tap and more responsive than ever before.
Specific areas of Yahoo mobile search have been upgraded as well. When you’re shopping, you’ll notice bigger product images as well as new options for filtering and sorting your search results. Image search gives you a truer sense of how an image really looks before you isolate it because each image thumbnail is displayed with its original aspect ratio and format.
Finally, local search is now much more viable with Yahoo’s mobile site, as you can filter your results according to aspects like ambience, price and category, and further sort your results according to ratings, relevance to your search query and distance from your current location.
If you’re an iOS user who hasn’t tried out Yahoo search in a while, will the new features be enough to make you give it another shot? Let us know in the comments below.
