What is your website doing wrong?
It feels like your website should get you a significant amount of traction. You know the potential value of e-commerce in the modern era, and you want to capitalize on that. You also know that you have a wide variety of consumers who are interested in your products, and that may be a global audience that can exclusively find your company online. Your website feels like the perfect way to make that connection.
But despite all of this, the website is continuously underperforming. What is it doing wrong, and how do you fix it?
Here at Content Customs, we offer website analysis services to help you determine exactly where improvements are needed. But to get started, here are a few common issues that we see.
Not adding any new content
To start with, many people create a website and then simply leave it alone for months or even years on end. They are never adding any new content or updating anything.
But it is much better for your visibility and your ranking if you are consistently adding content that is valuable to your readers. One way to do this is to add blog posts. These are not just focused on search engine optimization, but also on connecting with your audience, getting shares on social media, answering questions that your target audience already has and much more.
Slow loading times
One technical issue that can hinder a website is simply the speed. Modern users want websites that load almost immediately on both computers and mobile devices. Many people are only going to wait for a second or two before they go back to the search results page and choose another link. If your website has slow loading times, you’re losing traffic.
Your keywords are too generic
Another issue can be when you are trying to optimize your website for very generic keywords that have an incredible amount of competition.
One way to get around this, for example, is by including local geographical data on all of your pages and in your keywords. If your company serves a certain area, it may be much easier to rank highly for consumers in that area than on a national or global basis. You can also use long-tail keywords and add other types of important information. These help differentiate your keywords from simple, generic terms.
The website is difficult to use
Finally, just consider how the website appears to your audience. Is the navigation clear and obvious? Is the site structure intuitive so that the user feels like they immediately understand how it works? If the website is confusing or difficult to use, many people are not going to take the time to try to figure it out.
A related issue is when you have large blocks of text on your site without paragraph breaks, headers, images, videos, white space or something else to break up the text. That text may technically contain valuable information for your readers. If it simply looks too daunting, though, they will look for another source.
