Apple Finally Making Strides in Online Ads
For many years, online ads have been virtually controlled by two companies: Facebook and Google. This duopoly handled the lion’s share of online marketing, and still does. However, recent reports have shown that things may be changing. Apple is gaining ground and picking up more of the market share, finally making a real push to be a major player in this space. Meanwhile, both Facebook and Google have seen a minor regression. This isn’t to say that all three are at the same place yet, but it seems like things are evening out.
This is important for online retailers to consider as they look into their advertising options. A greater variety of options can help to keep costs down and expose your content to a new audience.
Advertiser Adoption Rate
The basis of the report centers on the advertiser adoption rate, noting that ads can be used in the App Store for iPhone users. In the second quarter, Apple reported an increase in this space of nearly 4%. This brings it to a total of 94.8%. Comparatively, Google was also at 94.8%, but they backslid into that as they lost two percentage points. Facebook had a three-point drop and the lowest percentage of all, at just 82.8%.
Data Restrictions
One reason for this is that Apple introduced some limits on data that can be used or tracked by companies like Facebook when consumers are using Apple devices. This was done to protect the privacy of those consumers. However, it also hindered Facebook’s efforts more than Apple’s, as the company naturally still has access to data that Facebook is now prohibited from using. Experts noted that this gives them “slightly more visibility.”
