Key statistics for Cyber Monday
Black Friday is the name usually used to refer to the first Friday after Thanksgiving. This is not technically a holiday, but it is when many stores will run significant holiday deals. It’s one of the biggest shopping days of the year, especially because people are trying to plan for the upcoming Christmas holidays. Once Thanksgiving is over, they see Black Friday as a chance to start their Christmas shopping off on the right foot – with excellent deals.
However, online shopping has become much more popular over the last decade or so. Black Friday is mostly used by brick-and-mortar stores as shoppers come to physical retail locations. Cyber Monday, which is the following Monday after Black Friday, is the day that online sellers tend to focus on the most. Below are some important statistics to show the type of impact this could have for your business.
11.2 billion dollars
Annually, Cyber Monday brings in around $11.2 billion in sales. This has even been climbing in recent years. For instance, 2022 saw sales that were 5.8% higher than 2021. It will be interesting to see if that trend continues, especially as many things in the United States have gotten to be more expensive.
196.7 million people
Last year, this is the number of people who did at least a portion of their shopping over the “Cyber Week.” Once again, it will be intriguing to see if 2023 can break through that barrier of 200 million people. But either way, it’s clear that this is not just a minor holiday from a shopping perspective. Most Americans are going to be doing at least some shopping.
43% of online sales
Shopping on mobile phones becomes more popular every year. Last year, mobile phones were used for roughly 43% of Cyber Monday purchases. There are certainly still those who shop on a desktop or a laptop, as well as people who use tablets and other such devices. But almost half of consumers are just going to be on their phones, which is why it’s important to optimize the store for this platform.
Cyber Monday can provide a massive boost to retailers who know how to leverage it for their own success. Here at Content Customs, we would be glad to discuss web design, social media advertising and many other tactics that your business can use. Give us a call at your earliest convenience.
