Bing vs. Google – which should you choose when you need to find something online? For most consumers, the decision starts with an even simpler question: “what the heck is the difference, anyways?” Bing, which is largely tied with Yahoo for search engine market share (in other words, way behind the Big G), understands this, and is doing everything it can to differentiate itself from the search giant.

Back in November, Google announced they’d be labeling sites as “mobile-friendly” in the search engine results when those sites meet a specific set of criteria. Later, as you’re probably aware, Google announced they’d be changing their algorithm to rank sites more highly if they’re mobile-friendly. This has many webmasters scrambling to improve their sites’ mobile capacity, as the change will begin rolling out in less than a week.
According to the latest comScore numbers, Microsoft sites got around 3.7 billion searches in October. While that’s only 19.5 percent of the search market share, the numbers are high enough to suggest that Bing should not be ignored – especially if your site targets an older or wealthier audience.
In an apparent attempt to compete with the reigning web map service, Google Maps, Microsoft’s Bing has recently added some new features. The new options will allow users to preview certain landmarks, buildings and streets in over 100 U.S. cities.
A little under a month ago, Microsoft issued an aggressive challenge to search engine users everywhere in the form of “Bing it On”, a promotion that asked individuals to compare the search results provided by Bing vs. the search results provided by Google for the same queries to determine which ones were better.
