5 online content mistakes to avoid
Here at Content Customs, we spend a lot of time helping people learn what they should do to make their content better. They learn what types of information to include and what types of content will be best in their specific situation. Every business is unique, and business owners have to find out how to get the results that they’re looking for. We use our experience and industry knowledge to help them accomplish these goals.
But it’s also important to know what types of mistakes people make so that you can avoid them when creating your own content. Here are five things to keep in mind.
Not doing SEO
First and foremost, you do need to address search engine optimization (SEO) with your content. It’s not the only focus, but it helps tremendously when you have appropriate keywords worked into that content. This allows you to draw organic web traffic to different pages on your site.
Doing too much SEO
At the same time, though, a balance is required. Your content does need to be helpful to the reader and it should be written for people, not search engines. SEO is just one component.
Not understanding the audience
Another problem is that the content isn’t written for the correct audience. What age demographic are you targeting? What will they respond to? Even well-crafted content is going to be less effective when it aims at the wrong audience.
Making it too complex
When thinking about content and web design, you always want things to be simple for the reader. This is why headers and subheaders help, because people can easily scan content. Navigation should also be intuitive. Any additional complexity encourages people to look elsewhere.
Forgetting that quality matters
Finally, one of the most important things to remember is that you do need to have quality content. It needs to provide helpful information that is relevant to your target audience. It needs to be free of mistakes. It should be appropriately formatted for both web and mobile use. Getting results isn’t as much about a large quantity of content as it is about a high level of quality.
