Does it matter when you run your blog post?
You know that blog posts can be beneficial on numerous levels. They provide information to your target audience. They help you incorporate different keywords and work on search engine optimization (SEO). They can be used as a funnel to drive traffic to your main site. They show the search engine algorithms that you are committed to fresh and relevant content. There are many reasons to consistently post on your blog, increasing your brand exposure.
But is it just about creating the content, or are there any tricks you can use to have more success? For instance, is it going to make a difference when you post your latest blog? Or will that post have the same impact no matter when you run it, as long as you’re doing so consistently?
Studies are split
Studies have not been able to adequately determine if there’s an ideal time to post. Researchers and results are often in conflict, so you can find studies to support either position.
For example, one study claimed that Monday at 11:00 AM was the best time to run a blog post and that most people would read those posts in the morning. But another study looked at how often these posts generated interactions or how often the posts were shared, and this study claimed that Monday wasn’t the best day. Instead, there was little difference from one day of the week to the next. It didn’t seem to matter if a post ran on Monday or Friday.
Identifying your target audience
The key is to consider your audience. How are they going to interact with these posts? When are they most often online? When you know who you’re writing to, you can pick a posting schedule that is going to work the best for them.
For instance, many people probably read blog posts in the morning on Monday because they are returning from the weekend off of work. They’re reading these posts while they’re at their desk. If you are writing to office workers or white-collar workers, it may be best to post on Mondays and in the morning.
However, your audience may be much different, depending on the products and services that you are selling. Maybe your target audience consists of college students. Many of them sleep in, so running blog posts early in the morning won’t work. They may also stay up much later than office workers, so you could theoretically get more traction in the evening or even at night, when your audience is browsing the internet on their phones.
As such, there is no singular answer regarding when is the best time to run a blog post. The answer is much more nuanced than that, and our experienced team at Content Customs can help you create the content you need and determine when and how to distribute that content so that it is most effective.
